Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador (in Spanish it is Universidad Politécnica Salesiana) is a work of the Salesian Congregation. UPS was founded on August 5, 1994 in the city of Cuenca and has offices in Quito and Guayaquil. It is characterized by the technical and Christian education that it imparts to its students. In 2016, it registered 25,545 students throughout Ecuador.

Creation[]

The Salesian Polytechnic University was created by Law No. 63 issued by the National Congress and published in the Official Gazette No. 499 of August 5, 1994, as a Catholic private institution of higher education, co-financed by the State. It is a legal person under private law, with a social, non-profit purpose. Its main domicile and headquarters is in the city of Cuenca, with offices in the cities of Quito and Guayaquil.

In accordance with the Higher Education Law, the Creation Law of UPS and the Regulations for the creation and operation of current University Extensions, the Salesian Polytechnic University may establish other headquarters or extensions or create Academic Units that the community requires.

The Salesian Polytechnic University is an institution of higher studies, Christian inspiration with a Catholic character, of a Salesian nature, which promotes the development of the person and the cultural heritage of society through teaching, research, continuous training and the various services offered. to the local, national and international community.

Fr. Luciano Bellini Fedozzi, sdb, is the founding rector. Then the priest Javier Herrán Gómez, sdb, was elected. Since 2020, the priest Dr. Juan Cárdenas Tapia, sdb, has been elected.

The Salesian Polytechnic University has a national character. Its headquarters are in the city of Cuenca (Calle Turuhuayco 3-69 and Calle Vieja; Calle Vieja 12-30 and Elia Liut) and it has offices in the cities of Quito (Campus El Girón: Av. 12 de Octubre 24-22 and Wilson South Campus: Rumichaca and Morán Valverde s/n.) and Guayaquil (Robles 107 and Chanbers) and its new Maria Auxiliadora Campus inaugurated on April 23, 2018, located at km 19.5 via a la Costa.
